Nokia X3 Unlocked - Feature & Detail

The X3 measures 3.8 by 1.9 by 0.6 inches (HWD) and weighs 3.6 ounces. It's made of somewhat cheap-feeling silver plastic, with a black front panel; a pair of blue vertical lines add some pizazz, with dedicated hardware music player controls embedded in the left stripe. A black and red version is also available. The 2.2-inch LCD sports 240-by-320-pixel resolution, just like dozens of unlocked Nokia Symbian Series 40 phones before it. The slider mechanism is solid, but the numeric keypad it reveals is a little scrunched. I found it tough to press the top row of buttons quickly while dialing numbers, at least when using one hand. The X3 is a quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) device with no 3G or Wi-Fi. I tested the phone with an AT&T SIM, though it also works with T-Mobile and prepaid cards both here and overseas. The battery cover is quite stubborn, though; between that and the stiff hardware lock on the SIM card slot, you'll want a different device if you plan to swap SIM cards frequently.Call quality was good, as with most Nokia devices. The earpiece didn't go very loud, but it sounded clear and full, with no background hiss. There's a touch of side-tone as well. Callers uniformly said I sounded good through this handset as well, and reception seemed solid. Calls sounded clear through an Aliph Jawbone Icon Bluetooth headset ($99, 4 stars). There's a Bluetooth-enabled voice recognition app, but it requires training and didn't even come close to working correctly. The speakerphone sounded surprisingly full and clear; it didn't go super loud, but it was good enough to use in moderately noisy situations. Battery life was acceptable if not great at 6 hours and 45 minutes of talk time. The standard-size 3.5mm headphone jack and side-mounted microSD card slot make this a good stand-in for an iPod. I needed to hold the door open with one finger while ejecting the card; otherwise the rubber hinge kept getting in the way. My 32GB SanDisk card worked fine, and Nokia throws in a 2GB card to get you started. There is also 42MB of free internal storage.
